Microsoft's Home Server sounds like a perfect solution to the problem we all seem to be facing at home. We started with on computer but now the wife and kids seem to have them too. Plus the work laptop. Now the printer sharing sucks and the backup strategy involves 3 Our Fathers and 2 Hail Marys. HS to the rescue! Just add a bunch of USB disks, plug in your printers, and install a client thingy and it rocks.
My problem is that it rocks in my office 3 feet away. I never turn the damn thing on. It's too noisy. I let backup slip, and I've thought my wife to print, she needs to turn on 2 switches. I need another room/closet.
I finally recycled my Compaq 1850R's that were racked 3 feet away for the same reason. Or am I like Gizmo - just looking for the next thing to play with?
